My dreamer today is Christine from Detroit, Michigan and she describes her dream this way.
Describe your dream: “I dreamed I was at my old neighbourhood and saw a deck of cards and drinking cups scattered all over the street. I then went to get a broom to clean it up – but when I returned everything was gone!”
Christine describes her Dream Symbols:
- old neighbourhood
- deck of cards
- drinking cups
- broom
What does it mean to dream of your childhood neighbourhood?
In my post Dreaming of your childhood home | Dreaming of a basement I have said, “When we dream of houses, we are dreaming of the self. The different rooms can represent different parts of our body. Attic rooms can represent our higher selves, or our thoughts, while basements can represent our lower feelings and emotions.” The same goes for dreaming of your childhood neighbourhood – this is a return to times part – the places that shaped who you are. A dream of a deck of cards may be a clue to your subconscious.
What does it mean to dream of a deck of cards?

I have also written about how playing cards relate to the tarot and how they can be interpreted. Check out my post How to Tell Your Fortune with Playing Cards. When we dream that we are amongst playing a game of cards we are thinking about strategy – and the parts of our lives we need to strategise. So a dream of a deck of cards means you are thinking about a strategy or plan.
Cups – although they are not on a usual deck are a major symbol in tarot – so I think this is a clue for you.
What does it mean to dream of cups?

In tarot, the suit of cups represents the emotional level of consciousness. Cups are associated with love, feelings, relationships and connections, and how we relate to others.
To see a cup in your dream represents love, nurturance and the womb. The cup may also signify rejuvenation and healing. Alternatively, it indicates a transcendence into a realm of higher consciousness. So this is a very significant dream.
What does it mean to dream of sweeping with a broom?

According to my favourite dictionary, DreamMoods, “To see a broom in your dream denotes that it is time to clean up your act and resolve your past issues. You need to discard what is no longer useful to you.” Sweeping denotes work and taking care of your “home business” – think about that and how this related to your old neighbourhood.
So, how can we interpret Christine’s dream?
Christine, I think this is a beautiful dream where you are returning to your childhood to clean up your act. Is there someone, or a group of people from your childhood that you need to sort out your emotional landscape with?
This may not necessarily involve contacting them personally, maybe you just need to sort out your own feelings internally? Were there issues in your childhood that you swept under the carpet? I am assuming the neighbourhood was from childhood but this may not be so. Maybe it’s from another time in your life.
Return to the period that the neighbourhood represented and look at any surrounding issues that you need to attention.
