Fun ways to burn 100 calories | Your BMR and how it affects weight loss
Everyone at work seems to love Chobani yoghurt. In fact, I constantly see pots of this delicious snack in the fridge. Want to burn 100 calories fast – the fun way? Well, read on! Depending on how you look at it, it’s difficult or easy to burn 100 calories. How long have you been stuck in the lose-gain cycle?
- Difficult: run on the treadmill at 5km/per hr for 10 minutes
- Do 30-45 minutes of fast-paced walking
OR
- Sleep for 2 – 2.5 hours – really.
I know that sounds wacky but hear me out. Yep, I burn more than 50 calories per hour when I am unconscious, asleep, immobile and not doing anything at all. And so are you. If you want to burn 100 calories read on.
Let’s look at my stats. I’m 5 foot 6 inches. I weigh 63 kilos or 139 pounds. I am in my mid-thirties. (If you weigh more or are taller – good news – you are burning even more calories than me!) According to online BMR calculators, I burn about 1395 calories per day, or 59 calories per hour at “resting” rate. Resting rate is the rate of calorie deficit we’d have if we were inactive, or (for example) sleeping or bed-ridden. This is the minimum calorie requirement your body needs (on average) to function and send correct nutrients to your organs, etc. To burn 100 calories, your body doesn’t need to do much, really.

So – good news, right? Many of my readers tell me that they were kinda unaware that their body had a BMR – or a resting metabolic rate. It’s great when you tap into it. Your body is constantly trying to lose weight, expend energy and well, die. I know that sounds morbid, but our bodies are actually trying to give up the ghost. They’re tired. They have no time for our games of self-preservation. They want to do as little work as possible and expend as little energy as they can – this is nature’s way of being efficient. It makes sense. Want to burn 100 calories? You can.
How can I burn 100 calories easily?
Our bodies always look for the “fastest route” to preservation. I know this sounds illogical but our bodies are always trying to find the easy way out. On their own, they have no sentience. They need us for that, their Higher Beings, which have brought them again to life. In effect, our bodies want to kill us. It’s our Higher Powers that have incarnated, often at great expense and spiritual debt.
So – don’t trust your body, or do, but remember that you are the master, the body is a non-sentient agent for your vehicle. I know that sounds awful, but we give back to them, so long as we treat them well. This means not putting our bodies into situations that are unnecessarily dangerous – bungee jumping, sky diving, race car driving etc. Don’t have non-elective surgery and don’t cover your delicate skin in tattoos and piercings. Or, if you do, be aware.
