Why I Love Military Fashion

Military fashion is back this season!

I have to admit that I’ve always been a fan! What’s not to love? Even if you’re a peace-maker (in fact especially if you’re a peace -maker) you should be garbing yourself in this gear in 2013!

Who is Doing Military in 2013?

To quote MillionLooks.com, “Every designer from Victoria Beckham to Salvatore Ferragamo has demonstrated their works inspired by military trend. All of them are quite simple and comfy like real military clothing but of course the fabrics are softer and designs are more adapted to women’s shapes.”

The Military trends I love

These are the things that I am loving right now:

  • Olive greens and khaki
  • Golden buttons, plaits and epaulets
  • Military ropes and tassels
  • Netted hosiery reminiscent of camouflage netting
  • To thick, shiny boots
  • And peaked caps
  • And shoulder pads
  • And camouflage prints
  • To earth tones
  • Brown and greens
  • Slicked back hair
  • A deathly stare
  • Tattoos and chunky silver jewellery
  • Fierce heels

The Juxtaposition – Sweet and Harsh

Every few seasons, military fashion comes back and I always feel happy when it does. Military fashion is like the juxtaposition of the harsh with the soft, the manly with the girly. I love nothing more than a torn and ripped khaki shirt with some delicate silver details or a military-style canvas bag with gold brooches pinned on it.

London Fashion Week

There was lots of military fashion showcased at London Fashion Week last month, especially by new and emergent designers. According to Reuters, “Up-and-coming design talent brought military influences while established brands exhibited ladylike elegance on the second day of London Fashion Week, one of the big four catwalk fixtures alongside Paris, New York and Milan.Earthy olives muffled loud neons, while cloche hats in matching shades added a feminine finish to the collection, which was viewed from the front row by actor Richard E. Grant.”

The article went on to talk about the slicks of, “bright colour, which is balanced off with dark aubergines and blues and chocolate browns … really in your face,” and that’s the best thing about military fashion – the wearer should be BRAVE when wearing it!

Let’s end with a Churchill quote!

“For good or for ill, air mastery is today the supreme expression of military power and fleets and armies, however vital and important, must accept a subordinate rank.”
