How to nurture yourself when you’re feeling bad

Do you need to nurture yourself a bit more? Times are tough for me right now. That’s life, eh? So I need to nurture myself. I have had lots of happy moments in the last few years, but lots and lots of sadness too. Life goes up and down and I have written before about the fact that Happiness is NOT the goal. Here’s Why.

Because I am feeling very low and I don’t want to slip into depression as I nearly did one time before, I need to do some things for myself to make me feel better and stronger. So this is how you can nurture yourself too.

How do I take care of myself?

Every day for the past week or so I have walked past this discarded girl’s book bag. I live in an inner city part of Sydney, and the local council is pretty lousy, so often the streets are strewn with rubbish which can remain there for weeks.

On the median strip there has been this discarded girl’s book bag in candy pink. It’s basically just a pillow case with a drawstring, so nothing of any value. I picked it up, but it was sodden through with the rain and the child who lost it has probably moved on.

Anyway – this book bag is the most delightful shade of candy pink. Something about the colour pleases me so much when I walk past it, I just love the colour of it so much. It’s a bit like this shade below.

Anyway, it made me realise that there are certain things that give me lots of natural joy. It’s important to have joy in your life. Lucky for me I also have a best buddy called Joy, and she lives up to her name. I thought for myself that I would start to make a list of the things that I love that I could choose to nurture myself with.

Most of these things are free, or pretty cheap, which is important. I have also included some things which are not free, in case I come across a spare dollar or two.

The things below are examples of what works for me, but you need to make your own list. Hopefully this may inspire you, please let me know in the comments below.
