5 most bizarre pieces of Nutella related news

Yuh, I love Nutella. When I was a teenager, I could eat an entire jar of it with a spoon. I could also eat an entire packet of Tim Tams, an iconic Australian biscuit which I urge you to try should you ever get the chance.

According to Wikipedia, the main ingredients of Nutella are sugar and palm oil, followed by hazelnut, cocoa solids, and skimmed milk. The Boyf cannot eat Nutella – as he has a nut allergy. When I asked him if this made him sad, he said, “No, I wouldn’t want to eat that crap anyway.” Fair enough – it’s not for everyone.

Here are my 5 most bizarre pieces of Nutella related news:

An all Nutella restaurant is opening in Brooklyn

Great! Go to the Nutelleria Home Page and check it out – sadly there is no menu uploaded yet. They don’t deliver and they are a registered proprietor of Nutella. If you’re a fan, you may want to go to New York. Their address is 82 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn. They offer gift cards and they take menu suggestions from regular customers. Groovy.

There’s a looming Nutella shortage

According to The Guardian, poor weather in Turkey is causing a shortage of hazelnuts. They are saying that the latest crop could be down by 30%. Ferrero (the makers of Nutella) apparently purchases as much of a quarter of the world’s hazelnut production. But how many hazelnuts does it take to make one jar? Apparently it takes 50 to make a 368 gram jar. Wow!

Some creative genius has invented a Nutella and Bourbon-Cherry Pizza

What do you think? Are you keen to try it? Chef Michael Symon grilled the pizza, believe it or not. He used the premier Knob Creek bourbon and swears by bourbon-infused fruit. “Macerate cherries (or peaches) with a little bit of smoked maple bourbon,” and top it over a Nutella-slathered grilled pizza, he suggests on Popsugar. “It’s spectacular.”

ISIS loves Nutella

According to the Daily Mail, “Brutal Jihadists have revealed a bizarre soft spot for the chocolate hazelnut spread.” At first, I read that and thought, “Yeah right” but go to the link and you will see their love for the spread. How bizarre! According to the Daily Mail, one Twitter user asked: ‘Could an embargo on Nutella or Chupa Chups destroy the morale of #IS mercenaries? #ISIS’

You can make your own Nutella – did you know?

Apparently, this is also a thing. Are you a good cook? Are you in love with a good cook like I am? Well – tell him to go to the kitchen and whip you up a batch of homemade Nutella. You can read the post here, but to save you some time – this is what you’ll need: 1 cup roasted, unsalted hazelnuts, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon organic sunflower oil.

Here’s my fave Nutella quote: “They put an expiration date on the Nutella jar, as if it’s not going to be empty in less than two days” ♥
