Have Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres broken up?

I thought I’d do a shout out to one of my favourite couples: Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres. I love this couple so much that I even managed to spell BOTH their last names correctly, without having to check Wikipedia. Part of my interest in their names is of course the fact that Australian citizen, Portia’s real name is Mandy Rogers, she changed it when she began modelling.

Portia’s struggles with weight and anxiety

I have written about Portia before. I really enjoyed her book about her eating disorder (she suffered from bulimia and anorexia nervosa) and the book is honest and well-written. Anyone who has read it would know for sure that Portia does indeed have demons, like most of us do.

I think that a lot of poor Portia’s battles come because she is hard on herself and as a gay women she has had struggles in her life and didn’t come out publicly until she was into her 20s or 30s, I think. I was happy when she married Ellen, but it seems that the couple are having some issues.

The secretly taped, drunken arguments

InTouch Weekly recently reported that the couple are fighting, and even worse than that, Portia is drinking and videotaping the arguments. They say, “Portia secretly taped some of their arguments. She was drunk. Then she threatened to expose Ellen as controlling and manipulating.”

“Ellen is domineering and Portia is passive,” the source says. “Ellen always calls the shots, and Portia never complains. She felt like a prisoner in her own home. She went from sipping white wine occasionally to drinking at least a bottle or more a day and topping it off with a pill. It got to the point where she was out of it four nights a week.”

There is nothing worse than being in a volatile relationship, and it sounds as though that’s happening. “They’ve had vicious shouting matches – with both of them yelling cruel, soul-crushing put-downs that they both deeply regretted.”

“Ellen and Portia can love each other one day and truly mean it, but you add some alcohol and they’re mortal enemies.

The source even goes so far as to say: “They can be a nightmare to each other”.

But, have there been recent happy times too?

But it wasn’t too long ago that they were seen, deeply in love. According (and pictured, see this above photo by Ian Donnelly) in the Daily Mail, “Ellen and Portia were inseparable during their PDA filled jaunt through the Big Apple.”

The photos of them were really nice, and hinted that they are still trying to be committed to each other. I also heard that when Portia was in rehab, Ellen went to visit her regularly and they seemed quite loved up.

My thoughts are with this great couple

The good news is that both women are intelligent successful and self-sufficient. I really hope the best for them and I hope they work out their marital problems to the best of their abilities. Relationships are tough. I flipped out at The Boyf this morning when he told me he didn’t like my new faux-leather pants. That’s life. (But FYI – the pants look awesome).
