Why constantly changing your style is essential: talking fashion with an Australian model
Jesinta Campbell has made a name for herself both in Australia and internationally for her fun, fresh signature look. You may remember her name from when she won the national Miss Universe Australia title in 2010. Now, she’s busy filming segments for Channel 9’s Getaway and Mornings and working with iconic brands such as Qantas, ASICS, Harris Scarfe and Wonderbra.
She shares her fashion and health tips with me today!
Hi Jesinta! You’re in your twenties now. How has your style evolved since you were a teen?
“Growing up I wasn’t in to fashion at all! I had no interest in designer clothes or make up and kept things pretty natural and simple. Entering in to a beauty pageant at 18 is where I began to learn more about fashion and beauty from that my style has evolved dramatically.”
Do you stick with one ‘look’ or do you like to mix your looks up?
“I mix it up. I don’t really know if I have a certain “look” I just wear things that I feel good in.”
What was the biggest fashion mistake you made when you were younger?
“There are probably too many to name!”
What are some of your fave Australian and international designers?
“My favourite Australia designers include Ellery, Dion Lee. And when it comes to international designers I love Saint Laurent, Vera Wang and Balmain. I could name so many more but the ones I’ve mentioned are probably my top four.”
What type of formal looks do you love, Jesinta? Are you an ‘elegant woman’, ‘girly girl’ or ‘edgy chick’? Is there anything that you are loving style-wise at the moment?
“I change it up all the time and it really depends on what mood I’m in and where I am going. I’m really in to white at the moment, I think white always looks good, especially in summer.”
What the best piece of fashion advice you ever received?
“If you feel good, you’ll look good! I think the most important thing in fashion is to wear things that make you feel good, so that your confidence is reflected by the way you hold yourself and the way you wear the outfit. I always think you should wear the outfit, don’t left the outfit wear you!”
What’s the biggest fashion mistake you see teen girls making?
“Your teens is the perfect time to experiment with your style, have fun and find out what works for you. It’s the time when you can mistakes. My advice to young women is to try your own thing and be yourself, look towards what’s in fashion but don’t copy…have fun and do your own thing.”
How important is it to you to live a healthy lifestyle?
“I believe in living a balanced healthy lifestyle. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, drink lots of water, exercise regularly and learn to relax and unwind. I’m a great believer in living an active lifestyle, enjoying the outdoors and moving your body on a daily basis.”
What’s your fave daggy hobby? Do you have a secret love of crochet or baking tea cakes? Confess!
“Believe it or not, I love to knit. I find it so therapeutic!”
What are you up to next?
“I just finished filming another Getaway segment on the Gold Coast, I’m also enjoying filming segments for Mornings on Channel 9. I am also really enjoying working on the Qantas ‘What’s on’ segments each month.
It’s that time of year when I am shooting all the winter campaigns for my ambassadorships. I just shot for Harris Scarfe and am looking forward to shooting the autumn/winter campaigns for ASICS and Wonderbra in the coming months.”
