Look at you; you’re beautiful! Didn’t you know it? The truth is, we all have beauty hang-ups every now and then. Being unhappy with how you look seems to be a standard sentiment among not just women, but men as well.
It’s a sad reality to live in, with so many people failing to see how beautiful they really are. Of course, beauty is more than skin deep and what makes someone truly beautiful is not just how they look; confidence, style, chutzpah and intelligence all make someone beautiful. Often what’s on the outside is just the icing on the cake.
The real truth is, everyone has their beauty hang-ups, but they shouldn’t be a reason not to love your body. You won’t be alone in suffering from common beauty and body insecurities, but that doesn’t mean you should let them get the better of you. Learn to tackle the following insecurities and boost your beauty confidence for a happier and healthier you. Here are the top 3 beauty hang-ups and how to ditch them for good!
Hang-up #1: your weight
At the time of writing this I am 28 weeks pregnant and I have gained a stack of weight. Even though I have a “reason”, I am still really self-conscious about it. Weight will always be a concern for people thanks to the pressures we put ourselves under to look good.
Obsessing over photos of supermodels and celebrities with perfect bodies sets an unrealistic perception of how you should look, and with many of them being edited to look a certain way – it’s an unattainable goal that will make you miserable trying.
If you want to lose weight for your health, you should go for it – but don’t pressure yourself into being skinny because you think it will make you happier. Learn how to make the most of your best assets to help you dress with more confidence and be happier with your weight.
Hang-up #2: your chest
Big or small, they give us grief! I have written before about My Big Boobs: Why They’re Not as Great as You Think. Breast size and shape are one of those things that will always be something women wish they could change. Men, equally, worry about the size of their chests. Check out my post on “man-boobs”.
Whether you have big boobs or small boobs, you’ll always want what you don’t have. Some people can learn to accept their bodies over time, but for others, it isn’t that easy. If you’re really unhappy with your chest or another part of your body – you can do something to change it.
Surgery for breast enlargement, breast reduction, and even inverted nipples is out there, but make sure you really investigate your options carefully. Self-acceptance should be your ultimate goal. Remember that choosing to have cosmetic surgery is your personal decision and nobody should judge you because of it, nor should anyone feel “pushed” into it. Do your research.
Hang-up #3: bad skin
The Boyf and I both have zits – don’t we all? Having bad skin can really zap your confidence. We think of bad skin as a teenage problem, but there are many adults who suffer from skin problems too. The good news is that having bad skin doesn’t have to be something that you live with. Both men and women suffer from this problem.
There are new skin products and treatments being launched all the time that can help you improve your skin and boost your confidence – you just need to find the solution that works for you. Adopt the right skincare routine for your skin type, and you’ll soon start seeing results for confidence that will show both inside and out.
